There's nothing like it on the planet! Real news reporters,
anchors, photographers, editors, news managers, writers,
producers, assignment editors and others gather for one
weekend a year in the hills of Malibu Canyon to help others
who aspire to be on-camera! All volunteer their time to
mentor because people helped them in their careers. Its
payback time! Its APTRA Academy!
For a decade APTRA Academy has been held jointly at Cottontail
Ranch and Pepperdine University in Malibu. We’re moving
to a new home because our old one, Cottontail Ranch, has
been sold. Our Anchor Academy will continue at Pepperdine,
but our Reporting Camp and all centralized activities, meals
and lodging are moving to Camp Mt. Crags in Calabasas. Its
very close to Cottontail.
Since 2000 The Associated Press Television Radio Association
has been offering APTRA Academy in both English and Spanish
and we have seen some fine broadcast journalists move on
to great jobs after camp.
Besides moving locations we are also moving dates of this
year’s camp. This year it will be held December
3-4, 2011.
